Residents of the State of Hawaii with a valid Hawaii category 1, 2, or 3 may request renewal by mail from the County that issued the license.
If your license was issued by the County of Maui, you may send your request to:

or, you may fax your request to: (808)-270-7858. A written request must be submitted by the applicant and include the following:
Your Full Name
Your Mailing Address
Your Date of Birth
Your License Expiration Date
Your Driver’s License Number and/or Social Security Number
Renewal by mail requests are accepted no more than six (6) months prior to the license expiration. Each license holder is limited to two consecutive renewals by mail. Resident military personnel and their immediate family may request for renewal by mail as many times as necessary, if they reside outside the State of Hawaii on official military duty.
The applicant will be sent a renewal packet containing all necessary forms and instructions, including a medical report form and a certificate of eye exam. As part of the renewal by mail process, you will be required to arrange with a law enforcement agency in your area for a “right thumb” print (on the application form contained in the packet).
Please be advised that all applicants must present original or certified copies from our Hawaii Acceptable Documents Checklist to prove the following and be able to renew their license:
Certified copies will only be accepted if certified by the issuing agency
Upon receipt of the completed packet and all requirements & payments, you will be issued a new license. However, this license may not contain your picture. If your new license does not include your photo, the words “valid without photo” will appear.
