The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the Red Flag Warning for MAUI COUNTY, in effect from noon today until 6:00 p.m. this evening. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures will create rapid fire growth potential. A Red Flag Warning does not predict new fire starts.EFFECTS: The air mass will dry out rapidly after morning showers today, producing low relative humidity across the State by this afternoon. Combined with strong and gusty trade winds, the low humidity and pre-existing dry fuel conditions may permit extreme fire behavior. Similar conditions are possible, though less likely, again onFriday afternoon.Conditions include: Northeast winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity as low as 45 percent.INFORMATION: Maui County Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation.
