[DRAFT] High Surf Notification 02 - HIGH SURF WARNING

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the HIGH SURF WARNING for NORTH FACING SHORES of MAUI and MOLOKAI, in effect until 6:00 p.m. Monday.

A High Surf Warning indicates that dangerous, battering waves will pound the shoreline. This will result in very dangerous swimming conditions, and deadly rip currents.

EFFECTS: Incoming northwest swell expected to produce hazardous surf
conditions along exposed shores beginning this evening.

Surf along north facing shores of Maui and Molokai will reach 20 to 25 feet, beginning 6:00 p.m. this evening and lasting through Monday afternoon.

Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face or front of waves

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: LARGE BREAKING SURF, SIGNIFICANT SHOREBREAK, AND DANGEROUS CURRENTS MAKE ENTERING THE WATER VERY HAZARDOUS. ANYONE ENTERING THE WATER COULD FACE SIGNIFICANT INJURY OR DEATH. BOATERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF AN INCREASED NUMBER OF SURFERS AND BODY BOARDERS UTILIZING THE HARBOR CHANNEL TO ACCESS SURFING AREAS.

EXPECT OCEAN WATER OCCASIONALLY SWEEPING ACROSS PORTIONS OF BEACHES, VERY STRONG BREAKING WAVES, AND STRONG LONGSHORE AND RIP CURRENTS. BREAKING WAVES MAY OCCASIONALLY IMPACT HARBORS MAKING NAVIGATING THE HARBOR CHANNEL DANGEROUS.

INFORMATION: Maui County Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates. NOAA Weather Broadcasts can be reached by calling 1-866-944-5025. NOAA Weather Internet services can be found at www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl.

Pre-recorded advisories and notifications are available 24-hours a day on the Maui County Automated Information System (AIS) by calling 986-1200.
