[DRAFT] Wind Notification 03a - HIGH WIND WARNING

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has continued the HIGH WIND WARNING for the HALEAKALA SUMMIT above 6000 feet, in effect until 6:00 pm Saturday.

A High Wind Warning means winds of at least 40 mph, or gusts of 60 mph or higher, are expected.

EFFECTS: High pressure building in north of the State will bring strong trade winds across the main Hawaiian Islands tonight and Saturday, and very strong winds over the Haleakala Summit area.

East winds will be 40 to 45 mph with localized gusts over 65 mph through Saturday afternoon.

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: WINDS THIS STRONG CAN CREATE HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS FOR OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES INCLUDING HIKING. MOTORISTS, ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES, ARE URGED TO DRIVE WITH EXTREME CAUTION. SECURE ANY LOOSE OBJECTS THAT MAY BECOME AIRBORNE OR MOVE THEM INDOORS.

INFORMATION: Maui County Civil Defense will continue to monitor the situation. Please listen to your local radio and TV stations or NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts for any updates.

The NOAA Weather Radio broadcasts can be reached by calling 1-866-944-5025. The NOAA Weather Internet services can be found at www.prh.noaa.gov/hnl.
