Press release: HSAC conference provides opportunity to learn about county issues

WAILUKU, Hawaii – The public is invited to register for the next month’s Hawaii State Association of Counties conference for a unique opportunity to learn about issues facing county governments and residents across the state, Maui County Councilmember Michael P. Victorino announced today.

Press release: Prescription medication discount card free for residents

WAILUKU, Hawaii – A free discount card for prescription drugs is available for Maui County residents, Councilmember Michael P. Victorino announced today.

NACo Drug

Through a partnership with the National Association of Counties, Maui County is a participating member in the NACo Prescription Discount Card Program. The program has saved residents across the country more than $500 million on  prescription medications, said Victorino, a member of NACo’s board of directors.

Consumers across the country save an average of 24 percent off the retail price of prescribed medications when using the discount card.

Chair's 3 Minutes: Definition of ‘agriculture,’ alcohol ban at Kamaole II considered

At last Tuesday's County Council meeting, the council referred to committee proposals to develop a unified definition of "agriculture" and to prohibit alcohol use at Kamaole II Beach Park.

Currently, "agriculture" is defined differently by various county agencies, depending on whether the context is land use planning, use of water or real property taxation. A resolution urging Mayor Alan Arakawa and his department heads to propose a single definition was sent to the Economic Development, Agriculture and Recreation Committee, chaired by Council Member Don Guzman, who introduced the resolution.
