Lectures will be held on Sept. 11 and Oct. 22 in the ’Ike Le’a building at University of Hawaii Maui College to discuss solid waste management policies, programs and technologies.

Sierra Club Maui Group and Sustainable Living Institute of Maui will host a panel discussion  entitled “Talkin' Trash: Solid Waste Solutions for Maui." The free event will be held on Sept. 11 from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Kainoa Horcajo, Maui Recycling Group board member, will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Jennifer Chirico of SLIM; Director of Environmental Management Kyle Ginoza; a representative of the Environmental Protection Agency; and Jeff Stark of Maui Recycling Group.

“Anaerobic Discussion,” hosted by Maui Recycling Group, will be held on Oct. 22 at 6:00 p.m.

The discussion will include presentations by Arun Sharma, President of Anaergia Services, Inc., and Dr. Allen Hershkowitz, Senior Scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council

Anaregia Services, Inc. was selected for a proposed 20-year waste to energy solid waste management contract with the County of Maui.

NRDC is a major environmental organization with a long history of leadership in addressing environmental issues around the globe.

The Mayor and Mr. Ginoza have been invited to discuss the County’s plans for implementing the waste-to-energy project.
