MAYOR'S CHALLENGE: A Healthy Adventure

Posted on March 18, 2013 at 12:00 AM by Office of Council Services

CALL FOR PARTICIPANTS: THE MAYOR’S CHALLENGE, A HEALTHY ADVENTURE!

The 2013 Maui County’s Health and Wellness Program’s main event for this year will be an unforgettable and fun-filled adventure for the whole family!

The Office of Mayor Alan Arakawa, the Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition (NPAC) and the Queen Kaahumanu Center are inviting all Maui County employees, businesses, individuals and organizations to sign up for the Mayor's Challenge: A Healthy Adventure scheduled on Saturday April 20, 2013 from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Queen Kaahumanu Center, Kahului, Maui.

This Healthy Adventure Challenge will test participants' teamwork, mental and strategic skills. Solve some of the tasks partnered with Red Door Portrait, Yogurtland, Macy’s and Sears, answer the puzzles and it’s on to the next clue! The first team to successfully complete the Grand Finale Challenge wins five round-trip inter-island airfare courtesy of Mokulele Airlines. More prizes will be announced.

"Fitness isn't just physical health, it's also mental health," said Mayor Alan Arakawa. “The challenge is designed for team members, not to finish first, but to learn as much as they can about health and wellness so anyone eager to learn can join. We are happy to create an event where participants gain more knowledge and appreciation for a healthy lifestyle, integrating health and wellness in our daily living.”

Please note that while this is a competition, participants are warned that they are NOT TO RUN IN THE MALL. Game Marshals will be on hand to make sure this rule is enforced and safety is at utmost importance.

If you are interested in joining, pre-register by sending your team members’ names to mayorschallengemaui@gmail.com. A $25 registration fee payable to Valley Isle Road Runners will cover team shirts in Challenge Packets which also includes solar powered pedometers from Sempra U.S. Gas & Power, water from Menehune Water and healthy goodies from Maui’s Nutrition and Physical Activity Coalition.  More details are available online at www.mauicounty.gov/mayorschallenge.

Only the first 50 teams will be accepted so reserve your slot today. Contact Kit at mayorschallengemaui@gmail.com or call (808) 270-8299 for questions.
