Council schedules special meeting on June 19
WAILUKU, Maui, Hawaii – The Maui County Council will hold a Special Meeting on June 19 at 9 a.m. to consider items that are time sensitive, Council Chair Gladys Baisa announced today.
Items on the agenda include a request to accept the donation of a waverunner and rescue sled from the Will Smith Foundation to the Department of Parks and Recreation. Council authorization is needed prior to a demonstration of the equipment scheduled at the Foundation’s Water Safety Day event on June 23.
Also on the agenda is a request to amend the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget to address an anticipated budgetary shortfall in the Department of Fire and Public Safety before June 30, the end of the current fiscal year.
Lastly, the agenda includes proposed bills from the Budget Director to amend the Fiscal Year 2013 Budget to cover the costs incurred for the demolition of the Old Wailuku Post Office and master planning for the Kalana O Maui Campus Expansion project.
In a communication to the Maui County Council, the administration said it is hopeful that the proposed bills will address concerns regarding the use of funds from the Old Wailuku Post Office Rehabilitation appropriation.
“This special meeting was scheduled because of a timing issue,” said Council Chair Baisa. “The fiscal year is coming to an end, and we need to address these budgetary matters before June 30.”
A copy of the agenda is posted in the mauicounty.gov/council website.
