WAILUKU, Hawaii – Councilmember Michael P. Victorino was recently appointed as Vice Chair of the National Association of Counties’ Rural Action Caucus Steering Committee by NACo President Linda Langston, Councilmember Victorino’s office announced today.
In Langston’s confirmation letter, she wrote, “Committee leadership at the national level is a serious commitment and a big responsibility, even more so this year with a federal administration engaged in developing policy on a number of issues facing counties.”
In addition to this role, Councilmember Victorino serves as Vice Chair of NACo’s Membership Committee and as a member of NACo’s International Economic Development Task Force. He also served as a member of the Environment, Energy and Land Use Steering Committee, where he was Vice Chair of Water Quality Subcommittee for the past three years.
“I am very honored for the trust and confidence given to me to hold these positions,” Councilmember Victorino said. “It is important to get involved on the national level to understand differences among counties, but also commonalities, and where we can benefit.
“I look forward to collaborate and share our unique perspective to be an integral part of the national picture.”
Councilmember Victorino’s work in NACo may include testifying before congressional committees and promoting the American County Platform developed in the NACo committee process.
Councilmember Victorino also continues to serve on the board of the American Water Works Association’s Hawaii Section, as he has done for 12 years, contributing an elected official’s perspective on the advancement of water system improvements in the state.
Councilmember Victorino is Maui County’s representative on the Hawaii State Association of Counties Executive Committee. He chairs the Water Resources Committee on the Maui County Council.
“One of the most significant things I learned from working on the national level is getting validation on how lucky we are living in Maui County and that we have so much to be thankful for,” said Councilmember Victorino, who holds the Council seat for the Wailuku-Waihee-Waikapu residency area.
