WAILUKU, Maui, Hawai`i – The County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) announced it will host a series of community meetings with officials of adult sports organizations and the individuals and organizations that serve as special event coordinators and tournament organizers for events at DPR facilities.
The purpose of these meetings is to share DPR’s proposed permitting and scheduling improvements for the use of DPR facilities, and to gather the perspectives of these individuals and organizations on building stronger partnerships with DPR.
In an effort to develop stronger working relationships, DPR has already begun to meet with the organizations and individuals that utilize DPR facilities to run non-exclusive youth programs on a regular basis. Along with high school athletic directors, these meetings have included officials from various youth sports organizations.
These community meetings will be held throughout Maui County. Organizers, officers and officials of adult leagues, tournaments and special events or community members and participants interested in providing feedback or hearing more about the proposed permitting improvements are invited to attend their area meetings:
Wailuku: Tuesday, Feb. 18 at 5:00 p.m. in the Waikapu Community Center.
Lahaina: Wednesday, Feb.19 at 5:00 p.m. in the Lahaina Civic Center.
Hana: Thursday, Feb.20 at 5:00 p.m. in the Old Hana School Cafeteria.
Lana‘i: Tuesday, Feb.25 at 4:30 p.m. in the Lana‘i Community Center.
Makawao: Wednesday, Feb.26 at 5:00 p.m. in the Eddie Tam Social Hall.
Pa‘ia: Tuesday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m. in the Pa‘ia Community Center.
Kahului: Wednesday, March 5 at 5:00 p.m. in the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center.
Kihei: Thursday, March 6 at 5:00 p.m. in the Kihei Community Center.
Moloka‘i: Tuesday, March 18 at 5:00 p.m. in the Kualapu‘u Community Center.
DPR is currently in the process of restructuring its permitting process and facility maintenance program. The primary objective of these structural and organizational changes is to provide higher-quality recreational facilities and opportunities for youth, individuals with special needs, senior citizens and adults in Maui County. DPR recognizes that community members of all ages and lifestyles utilize DPR facilities and will directly benefit from these significant improvements.
