Where or how do we record documents? (deed, leases, etc)
Hawaii is reputedly the only state in the nation with a single statewide recording office, the Bureau of Conveyances. The Bureau of Conveyances ("BOC") is an agency of State government. Please visit the BOC website for contact and other information.

How do I get an additional tax map key number?
You must go to the Development Services Administration to see if you qualify for additional lots.

How do I consolidate my parcels into one tax map key?
You must go to the Development Services Administration to see if you qualify.

How do I change my name on the ownership if I got married? If I got divorced?
A copy of the marriage certificate or divorce papers will be sufficient to make the change. However, if the property owned is a Land Court parcel, then the documents must be filed with Land Court who then forwards it to the Bureau of Conveyances.

What if I change my mailing address?
It is the property owner’s responsibility to inform the Real Property Tax Division of a change by submitting a written request using the Request for Change of Address form. Please include the tax map key number. Requests will not be accepted over the telephone.

Why is the previous owner's name still on my bill and/or assessment?
It typically takes the division eight weeks to update ownership. If you suspect there may have been a document error, call our office and speak to someone within our Tax Maps unit.
8.
How do I transfer ownership or add/remove someone's name to a property?
By recorded deed prepared by your attorney or a title company.

Why isn't my name on the bill?
There may be too many owners to list everyone. The printed bill can hold a maximum of six owner names. If you are not getting a bill, contact the assessment section.
