You may drive in Hawaii with a valid driver's license issued by another state if you are 18 years of age or older.

If you wish to obtain a Hawaii driver license, all requirements for licensing must be completed before your out of state license expires. You will be required to present your original Social Security Card (a laminated Social Security card will not be accepted) and pass a 30 question multiple choice examination. If you obtain more than 6 errors, you will fail the examination and will be required to wait seven days before you are eligible to retake the examination. The appropriate examination fee will be collected before the test is administered. Failure to pass the examination shall not be grounds for a refund. Depending upon a record check and surrender of your out of state license, the road test may be waived.
