Small Town Grants Program
Program Description
The Department of Planning's "Small Town Planning" grants program is a new program that took effect on
July 1,2012. The goal of the program is to provide planning and development support to our small towns.
Evaluation Criteria and Request for Proposal (RFP)
The Planning Department, in consultation with the
Maui County Council's Budget and Finance Committee has established criteria that the Department will use in evaluating grant proposals. Refer to the
Request for Proposal (RFP) for specific information.
Projects Ineligible for Funding
- Capital improvement projects
- Fundraising
- Events and activities
- Projects or activities that are redundant with existing governmental functions
Awards and Acceptance Period
In FY13, the Department has a total of
$243,000 to award. Grant proposals can be accepted at
anytime during FY13. However, due to the "first come, first served" nature of the process, it is recommended that proposals be submitted as soon as complete submittals can be prepared in accordance with the
RFP.

- RFP - The RFP provides instructions, a sample budget, a submittal checklist and other information that is needed to compile your proposal.
- Application Form -The Application form must be completed and submitted with the RFP.
