Watershed Partnerships
Overview
A watershed is an area of land which collects rainwater into a common outlet. In Hawaii the common outlet is ultimately the ocean. The closest Hawaiian equivalent of a watershed is the ahupua'a. Ahupua'a included the land from the mountains to the coast that drains into a stream, and the coastal ocean extending out to and including the coral reef.

The Environmental Coordinator’s Office has helped with initial planning for the South Maui Watershed group, and investigates a broad scope of projects and funding possibilities. The Environmental Coordinator replaced Mele Carroll as County representative and voting member in the East Maui Watershed Partnership.
