Commercial and Expired License Renewal
Commercial Renewal
It is the responsibility of all drivers to renew their Hawaii commercial driver’s license prior to the expiration date. You may renew your Hawaii commercial driver’s license only at the Kahului, Molokai, and Lanai driver’s licensing office within six months prior to the expiration date of your license.

Requirements
The following is a list of requirements to renew your Hawaii Commercial Driver's License:
  • Submit a medical clearance form. The form is available at the Kahului, Molokai, or Lanai driver’s licensing offices.
  • Pass the required vision exam.
  • If you have a hazardous material endorsement and you wish to retain it, you will be required to pass the written hazardous material knowledge exam.
  • Pay the appropriate fees.

Expired Renewal
All driver's licenses expire at 12:00 midnight on the expiration date. You may not drive once your driver's license has expired.

An expired driver's license may be renewed within 90 days after the expiration date without penalty. If the 90th day falls on a weekend or holiday, the renewal, which includes payment of the required fees, must take place by the last working day prior to the 90th day. If the renewal is not initiated, or in the case of renewal by mail, the envelope is not postmarked before 12:00 midnight on the 90th day, a reactivation fee of $5 for each 30 day period will be assessed in addition to the appropriate driver's license fee.

An expired driver's license becomes invalid if it is not reactivated within one year after the expiration date. If the one year period falls on a weekend or holiday, the reactivation, which includes payment of the required fees, must take place by the last working day prior to the one year reactivation period.

Please note that if your driver's license becomes invalid you will be required to apply for a driver's license as a new applicant.
